Basic Life Support including AED and Management of Anaphylaxis

The half day Basic Life Support including AED and Management of Anaphylaxis course is perfect for those who want to learn how to deal with an unresponsive adult, child or infant, including how to perform CPR and safely use an AED and how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis. This may be for specific responsibilities at work or in voluntary and community activities, or for personal interest and development.

STA Award in Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support including AED and Management of Anaphylaxis qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical competences required to be able to deal with an adult, child or infant who is unresponsive or experiencing an anaphylactic reaction.

When You Get Your Qualification

  • It lasts for three years
  • Your course resource manual will act as a guide throughout the duration of your qualification, so it’s always there to refer back to should you ever need it
  • We recommend that you attend an annual refresher to keep your knowledge up-to-date.

How to Take Your Qualification Further

Once you’ve gained your qualification, you may be appointed as a designated basic life support and anaphylaxis first aider for your workplace.

You may wish to develop knowledge and skills further by completing additional STA first aid qualifications or CPDs.

Alternatively, learners may wish to complete additional STA qualifications such as manual handling, fire marshal, lifesaving, swimming teaching and pool plant, to support a career in the leisure industry.

  • Be 14 years of age or older at time of assessment
  • Be able to perform practical demonstrations on the floor.

Are you wishing to become an STA First Aid tutor to deliver the STA Award in Basic Life Support including AED and Management of Anaphylaxis qualification?

To deliver the STA Award in Basic Life Support including AED and Management of Anaphylaxis, learners must attend a first aid tutor course. The pre-requisites to attend an STA first aid tutor course are:

  • Be at least 19 years of age
  • Hold current membership of STA
  • Hold a minimum of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training qualification (or acceptable equivalent)
  • Hold STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (or acceptable equivalent)
  • Provide evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
