Watching a well trained swimmer race in competition may lead you to believe that the sport is all about the “body”: the physical aspects of preparation, practice and performance. Seeing them seeming to move effortlessly at high speed might have you thinking that swimming is an activity centred on physiology: on muscles, tendons and ligaments – on speed, endurance and power.
Yet, swimming is as much mental as it is physical: as much about the mind as it is the body and in high performing swimmers, it is the integration……the connection…. of mind and body that ultimately determines success.
In this programme we will be reviewing the mind and body connection in swimming coaching and teaching. We will look at ways coaches and teachers can incorporate mental skills training into their practices and training sessions and discuss practical ways mental skills training can be introduced right from the first swimming lesson.
