Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults

Aquatic teachers are in a unique position, working with learners, many of whom are children or young people, but also with adults who may be considered vulnerable. The purpose of this unit is to develop knowledge and awareness of safeguarding; protecting these populations to ensure that learners and aquatic teachers have a productive, safe and enjoyable experience.

This CPD will provide aquatic teachers with an understanding of the different forms of abuse, the role of statutory agencies, good practice procedures, the role of an aquatic teacher and good recruitment practices in accordance with the latest changes in legislation and best practice documents such as the NSPCC July 2017 publication and Child Protection in Sport (CPSU) documents.

This CPD is suitable for all aquatic teachers; baby and pre-school swimming teachers, swimming teachers and people with disabilities swimming teachers. Aquatic instructors such as pool snorkelling instructors, poolside helpers and swimming assistants may also find this unit beneficial.
