Cultural competence touches every part of leisure and aquatics. It includes many important areas such as disability, gender, age, and more. This training developed by Bold Waters, will focus on race and religion, because these are areas where barriers to participation and safeguarding gaps are especially urgent in the UK today. By strengthening our competence in race and religion, we also strengthen our ability to serve all communities with fairness, safety, and respect.
By the end of this training, learners will be able to:
- Define what cultural competence means in the context of leisure and aquatics
- Explain why cultural competence is important for them, their organisation, their customers, and the wider industry
- Recognise how cultural competence shows up in everyday roles and interactions , from reception to poolside to management
- Identify common barriers and biases (including adultification) that affect participation and safeguarding
- Apply practical strategies to make their own role and environment more inclusive
