This qualification replaces STA’s previous Award and Certificate structure, bringing everything together into one comprehensive Level 2 qualification.

Developed in line with CIMSPA’s updated Swimming Teacher Professional Standard, it equips you with all the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to teach the full learn-to-swim pathway appropriate to the participant’s needs across all ability groups.

What You Will Learn

The enhanced curriculum blends technical foundations with practical, hands-on teaching experience, covering:

  • Core swimming strokes and stroke development
  • Essential swimming skills and water confidence
  • Survival and rescue techniques
  • Water safety education for all age groups
  • Planning, delivering and evaluating progressive lessons
  • Inclusive teaching and adapting for different abilities, facilities and needs
  • Communication skills, teamwork and other work ready skills
  • Safe, professional poolside practice
  • How to teach safe, fun, progressive and inclusive lessons to adult and child learn to swim participants.

By the end of the course, you will be confident and ready to teach independently on poolside.

You’ll need to make sure you’ve met the following requirements before you attend your course:

  • Be at least 16 years of age.

Learners must have all pre-requisites in place before the start of the course. Qualification certificates cannot be issued if all pre-requisites are not met before the start of the course, post course submissions will not be accepted.
