STA Launch Legionella Competent Person Course
Posted on 13th February 2026
Following the announcement at Spatex earlier this month, the STA Legionella Competent Person Course is now live.
A Legionella Competent Person is an individual appointed to manage the risk of Legionella bacteria on a site, possessing sufficient authority, competence, and knowledge of water systems and relevant health and safety laws. The role is vital for ensuring compliance with regulations and preventing Legionnaires’ disease, which can have severe health consequences.
The course is suitable for anyone who is responsible for a building which has a water supply, not just leisure or aquatics based. It is open to all those who are required or have a responsibility to test, check or maintain safe water.
It will give learners the knowledge on how Legionella is transmitted, the role of a competent person and legislation they need to adhere to as well as risk management including how to reduce the risk of Legionella.
On successful completion, learners will be able to act as a Legionella Competent Person who is able to carry out risk assessments, implement control measures, ensure proper monitoring and record-keeping to manage Legionella risks.
Delivered via an online programme, learners are able to complete at their own pace and time as well as return to the programme at a later date for guidance as required. The course is available to purchase through the STA Swim-Shop at £30 per programme.
