STA First Aid Refresher CPD

STA is therefore pleased to launch the STA First Aid Refresher CPD which is designed to support first aiders in completing elements of annual refresher training in line with HSE recommendations and suggested course content.
STA First Aid Refresher CPD can be delivered in 3 hours and is designed to refresh basic knowledge and skills, as well as keep up to date with first aid procedures. Topics include:
- First aid skills
- Basic life support and AED
- Choking
- Unconscious casualty
- Wounds and bleeding
- Shock
- Seizures.
Supporting CPD resources are available to download from STA Online now and include:
- PowerPoint Presentation
- Practical Observation Sheet.
STA approved first aid tutors and eligible lifesaving tutors can deliver the CPD and should complete the practical observation sheet to record the observation of practical elements of first aider refresher training. A learner must demonstrate the ability to act safely, promptly, and effectively during each skill.
Where a first aider scores unsatisfactory or needs improvement, further training will be required. A holistic assessment is permitted which allows tutors to assess and evaluate a learner’s communication skills, hazard awareness, problem solving / using initiative as well as practical skills. By completing and signing the observation sheet, tutors are confirming the record of training is valid, authentic, sufficient, current, and reliable.
If learners require a CPD certificate, a seminar can be registered on STA Online and upon successful completion, 0.5 CPD points will be awarded on the certificate. First aiders should practise their techniques as often as necessary to maintain competence.
Please note, completion of this CPD does not confirm competency, nor renew or extend the validity period of first aid qualifications.
