Technical Notice: SQA Accreditation and Safeguarding Resource Changes

Posted on 3rd February 2020

Safety Training Awards is pleased to confirm the following qualifications have been accredited by SQA Accreditation:

• STA Award in Teaching Swimming at SCQF Level 6
• STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming at SCQF Level 6

Qualification resources including qualification specifications are available from STA Online; the learner portfolios and PowerPoint presentations have also been updated to reflect this change. Approved Training Centres can offer the accredited qualifications through SQA Accreditation with immediate effect by selecting SQA Accreditation as the regulator when registering a course on STA Online.

Safeguarding Resource Changes

Safety Training Awards is also pleased to announce that the STA Safeguarding Manual which includes the portfolio element has been rebranded and updated following feedback. As part of this update, we have amended the assessment criteria wording 2.2 and 6.1 to:
2.2 Explain the role of Local Safeguarding Organisations
6.1 Explain the guidelines in relation to recruitment of staff.

This enables learners to write about the safeguarding organisations within their local authority and reference the latest guidelines in relation to recruitment, making it more beneficial and informative for learners.

The updated and rebranded manual will be sent out with the assessment packs and learner portfolios from today. The Tutor Answer Portfolio and PowerPoint Presentation have also been updated to reflect the new branding and wording amendments, which can be downloaded from STA Online. If Approved Training Centres have the ‘old’ manual for a course, these can still be used and are technically correct.

If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
