Total Qualification Time for STA Swimming Teaching Courses

Posted on 20th December 2017

Due to Ofqual regulatory requirements, STA has conducted a review of qualification contact hours. Ofqual regulated qualifications are now measured using total qualification time (TQT). Included within TQT are guided learning hours – face-to-face learning with a tutor, and directed assessment and learning hours – work a learner undertakes at home or without a tutor present.

The new TQT will come into effect for all swimming teaching qualifications from 18th December 2017. The TQT have been reviewed by a panel of industry professionals, who deliver the qualifications and are from different areas of the leisure sector to ensure the industry is fully reflected.

The following resources have been updated for all swimming teaching qualifications:

  • Portfolios
  • Suggested course timetables
  • Qualification specifications

Course manuals are not affected by this change and have not been updated. As part of the qualification review, the STA Award in Swimming Teaching portfolio questions have been amended. The updated resources are now available to download via STA Online.
