STA would like to confirm some important information regarding the course times for the STA Level 2 Award in Safety Award for Teachers.

Courses should contain at least 6 contact hours for up to 12 candidates and an additional 2 hours (1 theory and 1 pool) should be added if there are between 13-16 candidates, including summative assessment.

• Contact hours are those that involve teaching or practical activity and do not include breaks or lunch
• The contact hours can be split up into sessions that are a maximum of 2 hours, with a minimum break of 15 minutes allocated between each session
• The course is designed to be run over one day, but can be run over a longer duration with each session lasting at least 2 hours.

Please note: All STA lifesaving courses are subject to a maximum contact hours time of 8 hours per day and a maximum session time of 2 hours.
