STA Launches New Outdoor First Aid Qualifications

As part of Safety Training Awards’ (STA) ongoing commitment to creating high quality professional qualifications which meet the needs of the industry, employers, and learners, STA is extremely proud to launch two new qualifications:
  • STA Level 3 Award in Outdoor Emergency First Aid
  • STA Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid.

STA Level 3 Award in Outdoor Emergency First Aid aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical competences required to be able to deal with a range of outdoor emergency first aid situations.

STA Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical competences required to be able to deal with a range of outdoor emergency first aid situations, as well as a range of specific injuries and illnesses.

The new outdoor first aid qualifications meet the criteria set out in the Institute for Outdoor Learning Statement of Good Practice.

The new resources include:

  • Resource manuals:
    • STA Award in Outdoor and Activity Emergency First Aid Resource Manual (eManual only)
    • STA Award in Outdoor and Activity First Aid Resource Manual (eManual / hard copy)
  • Assessment Strategies
  • PowerPoint Presentations
  • Tutor Assessed Skills Sheets
  • MCQ Assessment Papers
  • Suggested Timetables
  • Qualification Specifications.

The new ‘interactive’ resource manuals contain updated imagery including QR codes which once scanned with a camera phone, direct to relevant video demonstrations. The resource manuals are available now within the STA Swim Shop.

To deliver the new outdoor first aid qualifications, tutors must complete the STA First Aid Tutor Upskill 2025 online programme and hold the relevant outdoor first aid certificate. The upskill holds a CPD value of ½ point and includes information on the course content, resources, and assessment requirements. It is recommended IQAs who wish to IQA the qualification complete the upskill. It would also benefit ATC co-ordinators.

The new resources and assessment materials must be used when delivering the new STA outdoor first aid qualifications.
